A commission-based dentist in a busy clinic in a high-footfall area can out-earn a salaried colleague considerably. The same dentist in a quiet clinic, or one that does not invest in marketing, may earn far less than the advertised figure suggested.

A retake costs the full exam fee again. Some applicants qualify for an exemption based on jurisdiction and qualification, which removes the exam fee entirely.

For Dentists Applying from India
Indian dentists holding a BDS or MDS are eligible to apply for a DHA dentist licence. The sequence is: attest your degree and experience certificates, submit DataFlow primary source verification, sit the DHA dentist exam unless exempt, then receive an eligibility letter that allows an employer to complete your licence.
Budget two to four months from starting DataFlow to holding an eligibility letter, longer if your university is slow to respond to verification requests. An employment offer is normally required before the licence itself is issued, so the practical order is eligibility first, job second, licence third.
How to Move Up the Range
- Specialise. The gap between general practice and orthodontics or oral surgery is the largest single earning jump available in UAE dentistry
- Build cosmetic skills. Veneers, implants and smile design command premium fees in the Dubai private market
- Negotiate the guaranteed minimum, not just the commission percentage, when joining a new clinic
- Get licensed before applying. Licensed candidates are faster and cheaper for a clinic to onboard and negotiate from a stronger position
- Ask for the allowance breakdown in writing, and negotiate basic salary specifically, because gratuity is calculated on it
