Why Filipino Nurses Choose Dubai

Filipino nurses are highly sought after in Dubai hospitals. The combination of English fluency, strong clinical training from Philippine nursing schools, and a reputation for patient-centered care makes Filipino nurses some of the most competitive candidates in the UAE market.

The numbers tell the story. A staff nurse in the Philippines earns PHP 15,000 to 25,000 per month (approximately AED 1,000 to 1,650). The same nurse in Dubai earns AED 7,000 to 12,000 — a 5× to 7× increase, entirely tax-free. Add housing allowance, annual flights home to Manila, and health insurance, and the total package represents a transformative career move.

There is already a large, established Filipino community in Dubai and across the UAE, which makes the transition easier. Filipino grocery stores, restaurants, churches, and community organizations are everywhere. You will not feel alone.

We place Filipino nurses every month
Health Bridge has an active pipeline of Filipino nurse placements across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah. We understand the PRC documentation, Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) requirements, and the specific questions Filipino candidates have. Check your eligibility.

Eligibility Requirements

DHA requires the following from Filipino nurse applicants:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from a CHED-accredited Philippine nursing school
  • Valid, unexpired PRC (Professional Regulation Commission) nursing license
  • Minimum two years of post-qualification clinical experience
  • Certificate of Good Standing from PRC (sometimes called Certificate of Registration/License Verification)
  • No pending disciplinary cases with PRC or any employer

DHA recognizes BSN degrees from major Philippine nursing schools including UP Manila, UST, Ateneo, De La Salle, CEU, FEU, and most CHED-accredited programs. If your school is on DHA's approved list, you are eligible to apply. If you need a complete overview of the steps, read our foundational DHA licensing guide.

Philippine-Specific Documents

Beyond the standard DHA requirements, Filipino nurses need several Philippines-specific documents. Getting these right is where most delays happen:

PRC Documents

  • PRC Board Certificate (original or authenticated copy)
  • PRC ID Card (valid, not expired)
  • Certificate of Good Standing / Certificate of No Derogatory Record from PRC
  • PRC Rating / Board Exam Results

Education Documents

  • BSN diploma (original or authenticated)
  • Transcript of Records (TOR) with school seal
  • CHED recognition or certification of the nursing program

Authentication and Attestation

  • DFA (Department of Foreign Affairs) authentication of educational documents — this is the Philippine equivalent of apostille
  • UAE Embassy attestation may be required depending on the document type
  • PSA (Philippine Statistics Authority) birth certificate on security paper
The biggest delay for Filipino nurses is PRC Certificate of Good Standing processing. Apply for this early — it can take 2 to 4 weeks from PRC. Do not wait until you start the DHA application.

DataFlow for Philippine Credentials

DataFlow will contact your nursing school and PRC directly to verify your credentials. Philippine institutions sometimes take longer to respond than institutions in other countries, which can extend DataFlow processing from the standard 20 to 30 business days to 25 to 40 business days. Learn how this step works in our deep-dive DataFlow Verification Guide.

To minimize delays, ensure your nursing school's registrar office has your correct name (matching your PRC documents and passport), your graduation year, and your student number on file. If you graduated more than 10 years ago, contact your school before starting DataFlow to confirm they still have your records accessible.

DataFlow fee for nurses: approximately AED 935. If you already have DataFlow verification from a previous UAE license (DOH, MOHAP, or SHA), those results typically transfer to DHA, saving you this fee and several weeks. Learn more about transferring on our License Transfers page.

DHA Prometric Exam

The DHA nursing Prometric exam is a computer-based, multiple-choice test covering clinical nursing knowledge. The pass mark is 60%.

Test Centres in the Philippines

  • Manila — Makati (Prometric Testing Centre, RCBC Plaza)
  • Manila — Ortigas
  • Cebu City
  • Davao City

You can schedule and sit the exam without leaving the Philippines. This means you can complete DataFlow verification and the Prometric exam while still working in the Philippines, and only travel to Dubai once you have a job offer and employment visa. Read our DHA Prometric Exam Guide to map out your prep strategy.

Exam Preparation Tips for Filipino Nurses

  • The DHA exam covers general nursing, medical-surgical, maternal-child, psychiatric, and community health — similar scope to the Philippine Nursing Licensure Exam but with different emphasis
  • Focus on pharmacology, critical care protocols, and infection control — these areas tend to have more questions than the PRC board exam
  • UAE-specific infection control and patient safety standards may differ from Philippine practice — review DHA guidelines
  • Our candidates who prepare for 4 to 6 weeks pass at a 91% rate on the first attempt

Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Requirements

Filipino workers going overseas must process through the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), formerly POEA (Philippine Overseas Employment Administration). This is a Philippine government requirement, separate from DHA licensing:

  • Your UAE employer or recruitment agency must be DMW-accredited for the UAE
  • You need an Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC) before departure
  • Your employment contract must be verified and approved by MWO (Migrant Workers Office, formerly POLO) in the UAE
  • OWWA (Overseas Workers Welfare Administration) membership is mandatory

Health Bridge is familiar with these requirements and works with DMW/POEA-accredited partners. We ensure your employment contract meets both UAE labor law and Philippine DMW standards, so there are no surprises on either end.

On top of the base salary, most Dubai hospitals provide Filipino nurses with housing (shared accommodation or AED 3,000 to 5,000 housing allowance), annual return flight to the Philippines, comprehensive health insurance, and 30 days paid annual leave.

Real savings potential
A Filipino staff nurse earning AED 9,000 in Dubai with employer housing can realistically save AED 5,000 to 6,000 per month (PHP 75,000 to 90,000). That is more than most nursing salaries in the Philippines. Many Filipino nurses in the UAE support extended families, fund property purchases, and build significant savings within 2 to 3 years.

Beyond DHA: Other UAE Options

DHA is not your only option. Filipino nurses can also apply to:

  • DOH (Abu Dhabi) — SEHA government hospitals offer excellent packages with housing. See our DOH guide
  • MOHAP (Northern Emirates) — faster processing, lower fees, and lower living costs. Many Filipino nurses start here and transfer to DHA later. See our MOHAP guide
  • SHA (Sharjah) — growing demand as Sharjah's healthcare sector expands. See our dedicated SHA Sharjah Guide

Your DataFlow results transfer between all UAE authorities, so starting with one does not lock you out of the others.

Common Mistakes Filipino Nurses Make

  • Waiting until the DHA application to request PRC Certificate of Good Standing — apply for this first, it takes weeks
  • Using an expired PRC license — DHA requires a valid, current license. Renew before starting
  • Not confirming your nursing school's records are accessible — contact the registrar before DataFlow starts
  • Accepting job offers from non-DMW/POEA-accredited agencies — this puts your DMW clearance at risk. If you are starting your job hunt, see our guide on how to get healthcare jobs in Dubai
  • Not negotiating housing — if the employer does not offer accommodation, negotiate a housing allowance. This can be worth AED 3,000 to 5,000 per month
  • Underestimating the Prometric exam — it is different from the PRC board exam. Prepare specifically for DHA content
