SHA Licensing for Dentists: Overview

The Sharjah Health Authority (SHA) is the UAE's newest dedicated regulator, issuing licenses independently from MOHAP through its own portal at sha.shj.ae. SHA uses a distinctive three-stage model: assessment, supervised practice, then full independent license.

If you are a dentist planning to work in Sharjah, this guide covers exactly what a SHA license requires — from eligibility and documents through DataFlow, the assessment, and activation. For the broader process, see our SHA Sharjah guide.

Eligibility Requirements

To obtain a SHA license, dentists generally need:

  • a recognized dental degree (BDS/DDS), plus a postgraduate qualification for specialists
  • a minimum of 2 years post-qualification clinical experience (more for specialists such as orthodontists, endodontists and oral surgeons)
  • a valid home-country dental registration and a Certificate of Good Standing dated within 6 months
  • DataFlow Primary Source Verification (PSV) of all credentials
  • The SHA professional assessment (DataFlow-PSV based) plus profession-specific evaluation

Step-by-Step SHA Process

Step 1: Document preparation (1–3 weeks)

Gather your qualifications, experience letters, good standing certificate and attestations. Dentists should confirm their qualification matches SHA recognition standards.

Step 2: DataFlow Primary Source Verification (3–6 weeks)

SHA verifies credentials through DataFlow PSV. Submit through dfgateway.com. DataFlow Verification Guide covers the document list and country-specific tips.

Step 3: SHA assessment certificate (2–4 weeks)

Complete the SHA professional assessment through the SHA portal. This is processed via your DataFlow PSV rather than a separate fixed fee.

Step 4: Supervised practice license (Variable)

SHA issues a supervised practice license allowing you to work under supervision at a Sharjah facility while your competency is evaluated.

Step 5: Full independent license (1–2 weeks)

After the supervised period, your license is upgraded to a full independent SHA license.

DataFlow for Dentists

Every SHA application requires DataFlow PSV, which verifies your credentials directly with the issuing institutions. The most common cause of delay is a mismatch between your passport name and your certificates — resolve any name differences before you submit. Our DataFlow Verification Guide walks through the full document list and country-specific timelines.

The SHA Assessment

The SHA professional assessment (DataFlow-PSV based) plus profession-specific evaluation covers general dentistry plus your specialty area (e.g. orthodontics, endodontics, prosthodontics, oral surgery). SHA recognizes the UAE unified PQR framework; exemption eligibility is confirmed during assessment.

SHA Fees for Dentists

SHA license fees (verified on sha.shj.ae): full-time AED 3,000 for physicians, dentists and TCIM practitioners; AED 1,000 for nurses, pharmacists, allied health and trainees; part-time AED 4,000 (all categories); visitor AED 2,000 (physician/dentist/TCIM) or AED 1,000 (nurse/allied). DataFlow PSV and assessment fees are additional. Confirm current figures on the SHA portal. Budget separately for DataFlow PSV (commonly around AED 1,000–2,000 depending on documents). For a full breakdown across all UAE authorities, see our cost & fees guide.
