The Sharjah Health Authority (SHA) is the UAE's newest dedicated regulator, issuing licenses independently from MOHAP through its own portal at sha.shj.ae. SHA uses a distinctive three-stage model: assessment, supervised practice, then full independent license.

Eligibility Requirements

To obtain a SHA license, lab technicians generally need:

  • a recognized Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences or an accredited diploma with relevant experience
  • a minimum of 2 years post-qualification laboratory experience
  • a valid home-country registration where applicable and a Certificate of Good Standing dated within 6 months

Step-by-Step SHA Process

Step 1: Document preparation (1–3 weeks)

Step 2: DataFlow Primary Source Verification (3–6 weeks)

Step 3: SHA assessment certificate (2–4 weeks)

Complete the SHA professional assessment through the SHA portal. This is processed via your DataFlow PSV rather than a separate fixed fee.

Step 4: Supervised practice license (Variable)

SHA issues a supervised practice license allowing you to work under supervision at a Sharjah facility while your competency is evaluated.

Step 5: Full independent license (1–2 weeks)

After the supervised period, your license is upgraded to a full independent SHA license.

The SHA Assessment

The SHA professional assessment (DataFlow-PSV based) plus profession-specific evaluation covers clinical biochemistry, hematology, microbiology, histopathology and laboratory quality and safety. SHA recognizes the UAE unified PQR framework; exemption eligibility is confirmed during assessment.
